Shop Floor Assistant

Huron Fabrication, a custom metal fabrication shop in Cudahy, is growing and hiring a full-time Fabrication Shop Assistant. This is a first shift position working under the supervision of our General Manager (GM) and assisting in all areas of shop floor production. Prior experience in a machine or metal fabrication shop along with a passion for metal fabrication is required. This is excellent opportunity to join a team that for over 20 years has been delivering high quality, highly customized metal fabrications to our clients worldwide. Primary responsibilities:

  • Assist Fabricators by performing duties such as supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work areas and equipment
  • Transfer finished products, raw materials, tools or equipment between storage and work areas of shop floor by hand or using hand trucks or forklifts
  • Operation of hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools, general fabrication tools, and various measuring devices
  • Serve as primary back up for saw operations, inventory control, shipping & receiving, and finishing department to cover personnel and production schedule demands.
  • Assist with maintaining shop floor organization and cleanliness

Additional responsibilities:

  • Perform minor repairs or maintenance to machines, such as replacing damaged or worn parts
  • Facility maintenance, and other duties as directed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required – or higher
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a machine shop or metal fabrication environment
  • Ability to read diagrams/prints, and an aptitude to increase your blueprint knowledge
  • Ability to pass a math & measuring assessment with a favorable score
  • Ability to measure accurately using a variety of instruments
  • Forklift experience
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Strong work ethic and effective time management skills
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and frequently without assistance or equipment at heights above or below shoulder heights
  • Ability to perform tasks involving constant periods of standing
  • Frequent stooping and/or bending
  • Constant hand/eye coordination along with balance
  • Regularly utilizes depth perception, peripheral vision and close focus
  • Regular exposure to weather
  • Ability to work 6am – 4pm, Monday – Friday

Metal Fabricator/Welder

Huron Fabrication & Machine Corp., a custom metal fabrication shop in Cudahy, is hiring an experienced Metal Fabricator/Welder to join our team of talented fabricators. In addition to impeccable welding talent, mad blueprint reading skills, and love for the variety and customization a job shop offers, the right candidate must also be experienced enough to rise to the quality our customers have come to expect for over 20 years.

 

This is a full time first shift position that is eligible to participate in our benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation and 401(k) which includes a company match

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

 

Primary responsibilities:

  • Study and interpret assembly instructions, read and interpret complex blueprints and sketches, convert measurements, and alter dimensions to fit specifications when directed.
  • Responsible for assembling structural metal products using tools, machines and hands.
  • Fabricate, weld, and assemble structural metal products, verify specifications and determine if all parts are present
  • Operate powered industrial equipment – fabricating machines such as rolls, press brake, saw, etc. in accordance with OSHA guidelines and Huron’s safe operating procedures

 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Resolve assembly and production issues
  • Build prototypes and test products
  • Hammer, grind and chip work pieces
  • Follow proper procedures for set up and maintenance of machines in the fab shop
  • Observe necessary safety precautions for fabrications, cutting and assembling.
  • Other duties as directed

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience welding and metal fabrication with open table fit up
  • Experience reading a variety of diagrams/prints from different companies. Must be able to fabricate per a wide variety of customer prints
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrate strong math skills and ability to pass a mathematic assessment with a favorable score
  • Must pass pre-employment weld and fit up assessment
  • Forklift experience required
  • Ability to follow directions and work in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills, oral and written
  • Welding certification, preferred

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
